He then completed an MA, MPhil and PhD from Yale University. The topic of his doctoral dissertation was 'Reconciling Reason and Revelation in the Writings of Ibn Taymiyya.' Shaykh Yasir is currently the Dean of The Islamic Seminary of America & resident scholar of the East Plano Islamic Center.

Shahanaz is currently studying for a PhD in Arab and Islamic Studies at the University of Exeter, with a focus on Islamic legal theory. Dr Fella Lahmar is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). She worked as a PhD supervisor at the University of Bolton, and a lecturer and a Course Leader for the Islamic Studies and Education programmes at the Markfield Institute of Higher education (MIHE). She also worked as a Research Associate at the University of Nottingham, and a lecturer and academic adviser at the European Institute of Human Sciences (EIHS, Birmingham).Fella has a PhD in education and an ESRC-recognised MA in Educational Research Methods (University of Nottingham), a PGCert in Higher Education Practice (Newman University); an MA in Islamic Studies (Loughborough University); a PGCert in Professional Studies in Education (Open University); and a BA in Islamic Studies (Emir Abdelkader Islamic University in Algeria).She has published on Islamic educational theory and practice, her PhD and follow-up research examined diversity in Muslim schools in Britain. Fella’s broader research interest explores intersections between education, Islam, Muslims, gender, migration and identity issues in the Western context. Shaykh Hassan ibn Ali Al-Kittani

Shaykh Hassan ibn Ali Al-Kittani was born in Morocco in 1972, and comes from a celebrated scholarly family. He spent his youth being educated in a number of countries, including Jordon, Saudi Arabia and Morocco. He completed a Masters degree in Islamic jurisprudence and The Principles of Jurisprudence (al-fiqh wa al-usool) while being based in the Jordanian capital of Amman, wherein his thesis was supervised by the renowned scholar, Al-‘Allamah Sa’dullah Abu Al-Qasim Al-Jaza’iriy. Thereafter, Shaykh Hassan was the Friday prayer leader in the central mosque of the coastal province of Salé, in Morocco, for a number of years.

Shaykh Atabek is a scholar in Hanafi fiqh who began his religious studies at the tender age of ten, completing his studies at the age of 21 at Jamia Isalmia, Uzbekistan. He furthered his studies in Damascus at the Takhassus Institute which is affiliated to al-Azhar University. The Shaykh is currently the director of the Maturidi Institute where he teaches in the Alamiya progamme and is also a teacher in herbal medicine at the Ibn Sina Institute. The Shaykh can be regularly seen on British TV and is continually involved in writing and researching on various topics.

Shaykh Abdul Hadi al-Umri studied under renowned scholars whilst pursuing traditional seminarian studies (Dars-e-Nizami) in India and at the Islamic University of Medina, Saudi Arabia. Shaykh Ayman Yacoubi graduated in the field of languages from the world-famous Al Azhar university where he also studied the traditional Islamic sciences. Following this, he completed two master’s degrees in linguistics; first from Marlboro graduate college in the USA and secondly from the University of Birmingham. Professor Seyed Mohammad Ghari S Fatemi

Professor Seyed Fatemi pursued seminarian education for over 13 years in the Hawza illmiyya of Qom, Iran, where he studied Islamic Jurisprudence and Legal Theory under the supervision of renowned teachers. He is currently a faculty member at Shahid Beheshti University and Al-Mahdi Institute, supervising PhD candidates and lecturing on the Philosophical Foundations of Human Rights, Islam and Human Rights, and Legal Hermeneutics. He also teaches the Public Governance in Islamic Thought module, as part of Al-Mahdi Institute’s collaborative Masters in Islamic Studies with the University of Birmingham.

Dr Hashim Bata

Research Fellow & Lecturer in Usul al-Fiqh at AMI

After successfully graduating from both the Al-Mahdi Institute's Four-year Hawza programme and the BA (Hons) in Islamic Studies at the Islamic College for Advanced studies, Dr Hashim Bata went on to pursue a MA in ‘Islam in Contemporary Societies’ at the University of Warwick and subsequently his PhD thesis on Shi'ite legal epistomology submitted to the University of Warwick. He currently teaches Islamic legal theory at Al-Mahdi Institute  & The Thematic Study of Shi’ism as part of the collaborative programme with The University of Birmingham.

Shaykh Mohammad Amin Evans

Director of Theology at the Association of British Muslims

Shaykh Muhammad Amin Evans holds a BA (Hons) in Humanities with Religious Studies and an MA in Islamic Studies. In teaching at the Al-Mahdi Institute, ICAS and Queen’s Foundation he has delivered undergraduate courses in Fiqh, Research Methodology, the Comparative Study of Religions, Islam and has also given numerous Islamic lectures in masjids, churches, colleges and television studios.

Hafiz Mohammad Saeed

Imam, Handsworth Islamic Centre

Hafiz Mohammad Saeed graduated from the leading Islamic institute, Markaz Ulum Islamiah Lahore, where he completed his Alim course and also achieved a BA in Islamic education. After settling in England in 2005, he began his career as an Imam and teacher at the Handsworth Islamic Centre in Birmingham.

Dr Ali Fanaei

Senior Lecturer , Al-Mahdi Institute

Dr Fanaei undertook traditional seminarian studies in Qom, Iran for over 17 years under renowned teachers. He obtained a Masters in Islamic Theology from the University of Qom and after relocating to the UK was awarded a Mphil and PhD from the University of Sheffield for his research in moral epistemology. He is currently a faculty member of the Department of Philosophy at Mofid University, Qom, and a senior lecturer at Al-Mahdi Institute in subjects including Islamic jurisprudence, legal theory and hermeneutics. His influential works have been published in both English and Persian through which he is being recognised as an important member of the select group of ‘enlightenment thinkers’ in Iran.
